"Jesus Taught Me" Video
Updated: Sunday, 26 December 2010 11:48pm (GMT)
The Jesus Taught Me video was uploaded by Bobby Joe Blythe to his YouTube account[1] on April 1st, 2009. The video lasts just over 6 minutes and shows a fight between Willie J Dennis, one of Blythe's black belt students, and an unidentified man. It ends with Dennis knocking the unidentified man against a metal pole, stomping on his head and neck twice resulting in a pool of blood forming around his head. Blythe then asks him to be dragged "out the back door".
A few comments were made by other YouTube users during the few months after posting it but it wasn't until mid-August 2009 that it garnered greater attention, and notoriety, from the Internet. As other users added more disparaging comments and questioned the motive behind posting the video, Blythe removed his account and his videos. It was then re-posted by another user and was circulated via 4Chan, Reddit and Digg to the wider Internet.
The 'Jesus Taught Me' title was lost during the re-posting and was mostly circulated as a karate dojo video that featured a "mentally challenged" man[2][3].
The YouTube Posting
Blythe posted the video with the accompanying description (pictured to the right).
“This dummy was in my shopping center while I was on a Bodyguard Job in Washington, DC. This guy was in the Pizza Hut eating pizza off the plates of others and the Pizza Hut Manager ran him out with a pistol. Later the very same day, police officers were called to remove him from a nearby pharmacy after having been caught reaching into customer's purses.
A short time after that, he visited a Napa Auto Parts store next to my Karate Dojo and told the management he planned on teaching in that Dojo and that Jesus taught him. The Napa guys told him he was confused (their polite way of warning the man against such action), but not wanting to miss a show, they told the man they would close early just to watch and that he must not know the owner, which is nobody to play with.
Needless to say, the police pulled him out of the dumpster behind my Karate Dojo where he was neatly placed. Semper Fi to all my Marine brothers. The karate student in the white is also a Marine Sgt. and a brand new Black Belt.
Never get stupid with a Marine, you could get jacked up and have your clock stopped.”
The Video
This description of the video is a slightly edited version of 'Updates on Video Showing Bobby Blythe Watching Student Savagely Beat Man' by Tyson Brown[4].
The video starts out with Blythe explaining to his students, as well as other members of the audience, that the unidentified man was present to demonstrate "spiritual movements". The unidentified man explains that he is a "Shintokan priest" and that he is going to demonstrate what he knows. Blythe, who speaks with an underlying sarcastic tone throughout the beginning of the video, states to those present that the man is "a master who has no master", a remark to which the unidentified man quips "my master is Jesus Christ". Blythe then mockingly asks the man if he was taught martial arts by Jesus Christ but before the man could answer he cuts him off.
The man then states that he wants to demonstrate some of his movements, a request to which Blythe remarks "demonstrate on him", referring to Dennis.
The man then states that he "won't demonstrate on him, but will demonstrate around him". He then tells Dennis that "I will not touch you... I just wish to teach you...I don't wish to hurt you", to which Dennis responds "Teach me". As the man gets ready to demonstrate what he refers to as a "kata", which is a martial arts term for a demonstration of choreographed movements, Blythe walks away and Dennis unexpectedly kicks the man in the groin.
The two men exchange strikes for roughly seven seconds before the unidentified man states "don't do that anymore" to Dennis. Dennis then strikes the man again, bringing about another ten seconds of fighting in which Dennis half-heartedly fights the man while the man ‘dances' around him performing more intricate martial arts moves before again asking Dennis "not to do that any more". Dennis then kicks the man again, causing the man to block the kick and proclaim "no...I'm not a fighter".
The man then again attempts to demonstrate his elaborate movements before Dennis begins to strike him several times. Dennis is now clearly fighting full force and lands seven punches and three kicks before either slipping or falling due to a defensive kick from the man. The men then exchange blows for 25 seconds before the man is knocked to the ground by an elbow to the face from Dennis. The man attempts to get up but Dennis grabs his tie and uses it as leverage to keep him on the ground before hovering over him and striking him in the face several times while yelling expletives.
The two then get to their feet as Dennis knees the man in the face and throws him against a wall. The man puts up his hand as a sign of submission and proclaims, "You are good. You are good", to which Dennis responds with another strike to the face. The two wrestle around as Dennis uses the man's tie to keep him from escaping and pushes him into another wall. Another man comes into view, apparently pushing the man back towards Dennis. The man has clearly conceded defeat and proclaims "you got it...you got it" while Dennis grabs his leg and puts it waist high, causing the man to move backwards. He punches the man again, sending him crashing to the floor, before unleashing a vicious series of kicks and knees to the back of the man's head. He pulls the man's head up by his hair and knees him full force into a metal pole. The man is no longer moving and is possibly unconscious but Dennis heel stomps him at full force once in the neck and then stomps on his head full force with his entire foot.
An unidentified person finally stops Dennis as the man lies on the ground motionless, either gasping for air or snoring from being knocked unconscious. Blythe then says, "Drag him out the back door! Drag him out the back door". Another man then comes into the camera's view and hurriedly drags the man across the floor out of the back door, leaving a trail of blood. Blythe then tells the man to get the unconscious man's sash which Dennis adds, "Yeah, get my sash". The video then cuts away and comes back, with Blythe as the narrator, detailing the pool of blood and trail of blood leading out of the back door. He then states the time and date to be December 13th, 1984 around 7pm. He further details the blood in the grass outside of the back door and more blood on the outside of the back door.
The Aftermath
The following comments[5] were made by YouTube users in the 4½ months afterwards.

Did he happend to come back with a lawer? - bobbyjoeblythe007
- Last I heard, he was in Salem, VA in the Mental Lockup there. Go figure!!! Earlier that day, the police ran him out of the Drug Store and later a Pizza Manager pulled a pistol on him. I was on a Bodyguard job that day and when I showed up, he came in later while I was teaching. The cops pulled him out of the Dumpster behind the dojo.

- This is a brutal and unnecessary act of ego. This man was obviously mentally ill and should come back and sue you ass. He has obviously now got enough video evidence. Stamping on a persons head is not reasonable force and this type of behaviour is not acceptable from a 'martial artist'. Placing it on public view brings shme to the martial arts community.

- I can see accepting a challenge from someone who comes into your dojo, but you had prior knowledge that this person was mentally disturbed. Also letting your student stomp on the guy at the end was purely negligent. Finally you didn't call the police or EMTs. Hope you have your insurance paid up.
- ua26695
- Bad decision, I would say.
- bobbyjoeblythe007
- He was advised not to do what he had said he was going to do.....PERIOD. And that was to not go into THAT DOJO. That DOJO isn't like any other DOJO. This Dojo raised it's own Bodyguards for a Company in Northern Virginia. This Sensei just so happens to be the Director of the Service.
- ua26695
- He was told not to go to another ones DOJO. PERIOD!
- bobbyjoeblythe007
- If it would have took longer, I would have dropped both. This upset me it took so look. I was very disappointed with my guy and he paid for a week after that. That video will be coming up soon. That video will have the name....Fight for Life. That one will be good.
- ize1277
- that dude snapped; looks to me like somebody lost control
It should also be noted that ua26695 is one of Blythe's friends in real life. The video was then reposted to YouTube before being circulated on Reddit[2] and Digg[3]. YouTube removed the video due to its extreme violence but it has since reappeared on a number of sites including LiveLeak[6].
